This page explains what personal information Palliser Music collects, why we collect it, who can see it, and what your rights are. We try to be specific rather than legalistic — if anything is unclear, email hello@palliser.music and we’ll explain.
Who runs this site
Palliser Music is a joint venture between Palliser Music (Linda’s business, based in Manitoba) and Digified Media (Spencer’s business, based in Alberta). Together the JV owns the two directory sites — ManitobaPiano.com and AlbertaPiano.com — and operates them as a single service.
Digified Media is the technical operator: it handles hosting, software, and the day-to-day mechanics of running the sites. Palliser Music handles teacher verification and editorial. Both partners have access to the data described below.
What we collect and why
From site visitors
When you visit any page on the site, we collect standard web analytics data through Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console. This includes:
- The URL you visited and the URL that referred you.
- Your approximate location (typically at the city level, from your IP address).
- Your device type, browser, and operating system.
- Anonymized session identifiers Google Analytics uses to distinguish one visit from another.
We use this data to understand which pages people find useful, which cities are searching most, and where the site’s rough edges are. We don’t sell it, we don’t share it with teachers or third parties, and we don’t try to identify individual visitors from it.
From parents who inquire about a teacher
When you submit an inquiry through a teacher’s listing, we collect the information you enter on the form — typically your name, an email address, a phone number, and a short message. That inquiry is forwarded to the teacher you contacted. We keep a copy so we can help resolve any dispute later (for example, if a teacher says they never received your message).
Inquiry data is handled through QFlo, our marketing-automation platform (also operated by Digified Media). QFlo stores the message and sends the notification email to the teacher.
From parents who leave a review
When you submit a review, we collect:
- Your name (which appears on the review) or a first-name-and-last-initial variant if you prefer.
- Your email address (used to verify you’re a real person; not published).
- The five sub-ratings and the written review text.
Reviews are moderated before publication — see our review policy for the full process. Your email address stays with us; it’s never shown on the review and never shared with the teacher unless you agree to be identified.
From teachers who apply for a listing
Teacher applications ask for the information a parent would need to make a decision (name, photo, bio, credentials, contact information, teaching formats, price band) plus supporting documents for any credential we’re being asked to verify. All of that is used to build the public listing. Documents you upload for verification are stored securely and viewed only by Linda; they aren’t published on the listing itself.
Where your data lives
Site content and inquiry data are hosted on Amazon Web Services in the US Pacific region (Oregon). This includes the WordPress databases for both sites, our shared teacher records, and QFlo’s inquiry logs. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.
Email is sent through Amazon Simple Email Service using addresses that match the site you’re on (a note from ManitobaPiano.com will come from a manitobapiano.com address, and similarly for Alberta).
Who else can see your data
A short list:
- The teacher you inquired about, if you inquired — they receive your name, email, phone, and message so they can reply.
- Linda and Spencer, in their operator roles — for teacher verification, review moderation, and site administration.
- Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console, for the visit data described above. Google’s own privacy policy covers what happens to that data on their side.
- Amazon Web Services (hosting) and QFlo (form/email tooling), as sub-processors that store or route the data on our behalf.
That’s the full list. We don’t sell data to advertisers, list brokers, or lead-gen resellers.
Cookies
The site uses a small number of cookies:
- WordPress session cookies, if you log in as a teacher or administrator.
- Google Analytics cookies, for the visit-attribution data described above.
- A brief cookie that remembers your search filters between page loads on the search results page.
You can decline analytics cookies through your browser’s Do Not Track setting or by using a browser that blocks third-party cookies by default. The functional cookies (WordPress session, search filters) will still be set because the site needs them to work.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Ask us what personal information we hold about you, and we’ll send you a summary.
- Correct anything that’s wrong — a review with an incorrect star rating, an inquiry sent to the wrong teacher, a listing detail (for teachers) that’s out of date.
- Ask us to delete your data. Reviews and inquiries can be removed on request; a published teacher listing can be unpublished and the data purged (though public archives, screenshots, and search-engine caches may retain older versions outside our control).
- Withdraw your consent to any of the above at any time.
To make any of these requests, email hello@palliser.music with a subject line that starts with “Privacy request —”. We’ll reply within a week and complete the action within 30 days.
Complaints
If you think we’ve mishandled your data, please tell us first — most issues get sorted out quickly through a direct conversation. If we can’t resolve it, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
Changes to this page
If we materially change how we handle your data (adding a new sub-processor, changing how long we keep things, expanding what we collect), we’ll update this page and note the change at the top. Small clarifications don’t get a note.
