These are the terms that cover using Palliser Music’s directory sites — ManitobaPiano.com and AlbertaPiano.com. By using either site you agree to what’s below. The plain version: use the site in good faith, don’t misrepresent yourself, don’t do things that hurt other users, and understand what the site is and isn’t for.
What the site is (and isn’t)
Palliser Music is a directory. Its job is to help parents find piano teachers in Alberta and Manitoba and to help teachers reach the parents who are looking. That’s it.
Specifically, the site is not:
- A booking or payment platform. Lessons are arranged directly between you and the teacher; the site doesn’t intermediate money, scheduling, or lesson content.
- A guarantor of teacher performance. We verify credentials and identity (see how we vet teachers) but we can’t guarantee any teacher will suit any particular student, and we don’t observe individual lessons.
- A licensing body. Membership in ARMTA, MRMTA, or the RCM examiner roster is granted by those bodies, not by us. We surface the fact of membership; we don’t confer it.
- A dispute-resolution service. If a lesson arrangement goes wrong between a parent and a teacher, that’s between the two parties and (if serious) the relevant regulator or association. We can mediate if it involves the accuracy of the listing itself, but not the substance of the teaching relationship.
Using the site as a parent or student
You can browse listings, submit inquiries, and leave reviews without creating an account. What we ask in return:
- Use inquiry forms in good faith. Contact teachers because you’re genuinely considering lessons. Don’t send spam, sales pitches, or messages meant to harass.
- Leave reviews you’ve earned. Only review teachers whose lessons you (or your child) actually took. Follow the review policy.
- Don’t scrape the site. Copying listings, reviews, or credential data in bulk isn’t allowed. If you have a legitimate research need, email us — we’ll almost always find a way to help.
Using the site as a teacher
When your listing is published, you agree to:
- Keep credentials honest. Only claim credentials you hold. If a credential lapses (an ARMTA membership expires, an examiner term ends), tell us so we can update the chip. If you don’t, we’ll notice on our periodic re-verification pass and update it ourselves.
- Reply to inquiries you receive. Even a short “not currently accepting new students” reply is better than silence. Parents notice which listings are responsive.
- Not game reviews. Don’t create fake accounts to review yourself. Don’t offer discounts, freebies, or preferential treatment in exchange for reviews. Don’t ask friends or family members who weren’t actually your students to write reviews. All of these will get a listing suspended, and if it’s a pattern, removed.
- Not harass reviewers. You can respond to a review publicly through the response feature — see the review policy. Contacting a reviewer outside the platform to pressure them into changing or removing their review is a hard line and will get a listing removed.
Content you post
The content on your listing (bio, photo, credential details) stays yours — we don’t claim ownership of it. What you give us is a licence to display it on the site, share it in social posts about the site, and include it in cached form in search engine indexes. If you take your listing down, we stop displaying it and remove the underlying data on request, but we can’t retroactively pull it out of search-engine caches or third-party archives.
Reviews you write are also yours; you give us a similar licence to display them, moderate them, and (in edge cases) quote from them in editorial content about the site itself.
Content we take down
We’ll remove or refuse to publish content that:
- Impersonates someone else, misrepresents credentials, or misleads parents about who they’d be dealing with.
- Contains illegal content, threats, or targeted harassment.
- Names third parties (other students, other teachers, family members) in a way they wouldn’t consent to.
- Is spam — commercial pitches unrelated to piano teaching, links to unrelated sites, or bulk copy-paste text.
- Attempts to move a conversation off the platform in a way we consider unsafe (e.g. asking a parent to complete a payment on an unrelated site before a lesson).
Suspending or removing listings
We can suspend a listing while we investigate a concern (a flagged review, a credential we can’t confirm, a complaint from a parent), and we can remove a listing entirely if the concern turns out to be substantiated. See how we vet teachers for the specific circumstances that will trigger this.
Suspensions and removals aren’t punitive. If you disagree with a decision, email hello@palliser.music with “Listing appeal —” in the subject and we’ll re-examine the case.
Fees, right now and later
At launch, everything is free — listings, reviews, inquiries, the badge, all of it. If we introduce paid tiers later (for featured placement or richer profiles), we’ll do it as an opt-in on top of the free base listing. The base listing itself will always be free.
Terms will get updated when the fee structure changes; we won’t retroactively bill anyone for something they signed up for as free.
Warranties and liability
We provide the site as-is. We do our best to keep it running, keep the information accurate, and keep the moderation queue current, but we can’t guarantee the site will always be available, always be error-free, or always be up to date with the current state of every teacher’s practice.
Our liability for issues arising from your use of the site is limited to the fees you’ve paid us for the service (which, at launch, is zero for everyone). This limitation applies to the fullest extent Canadian consumer-protection law allows — we can’t limit rights that consumer-protection law grants you regardless of what a terms page says.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If a dispute goes to court, the courts of Alberta have exclusive jurisdiction — unless consumer-protection law grants you a different forum, in which case that law applies.
Changes
We’ll update these terms when there’s a material change (fee structure, dispute process, new features that need coverage). We’ll note the update at the top of the page. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the updated terms.
